Vigilis Bio Voleguard

The Vigilis Bio Voleguard is a soil biodegradable ground-level tree guard developed to protect the stem base and root collar of newly planted trees from vole and rodent damage during establishment. Manufactured from a patented bio-based material, it provides effective protection where girdling and bark damage are most likely to occur, helping improve young tree survival in woodland, forestry and conservation planting projects.

Designed to fit neatly inside Vigilis Bio Tree Shelters, the Voleguard completes a fully soil biodegradable tree protection system. Its rigid single-wall wrap construction allows for quick installation while making insertion into the soil straightforward. The expanding wrap design accommodates natural stem growth, helping to minimise restriction as the tree develops.

Providing a minimum functional life of three years, the Vigilis Bio Voleguard gradually biodegrades in normal soil conditions after use, eliminating the need for retrieval and leaving no plastic or microplastic residue behind. Supported by Innovate UK R&D funding, it offers an environmentally responsible solution for protecting vulnerable young trees from below-ground browsing damage.
