Populus 'Robusta', known as the Hybrid Poplar ‘Robusta’, is a fast-growing and versatile tree widely planted across Britain for shelter, screening, and timber production. Originating from France in 1895, this male clone is particularly valued for its rapid growth, attractive form, and ecological benefits. Its narrowly conical shape and glossy bronzy leaves in spring, which mature to vibrant green before turning yellow at leaf fall, make it an elegant addition to landscapes and shelter belts. Bright red catkins in early spring provide a striking seasonal feature.

‘Robusta’ thrives in moist soils, tolerates exposed and coastal conditions, and is suitable for a variety of planting applications including plantations, avenues, and coppicing schemes. As a male clone, it does not produce seeds, making it ideal where controlled planting is required.
