Acer pseudoplatanus, commonly known as Sycamore, is a large, fast-growing and exceptionally resilient tree widely established across the UK. Native to Europe but long naturalised in Britain, Sycamore is a familiar and dependable presence in both rural and urban landscapes. Its ability to thrive in harsh, exposed and polluted environments makes it one of the most robust and adaptable broadleaf trees available for commercial planting schemes.

Sycamore performs reliably in even the most difficult conditions, including coastal winds, poor soils, urban pollution, heavy exposure, shade and very low temperatures. For this reason, it is frequently specified as a shelter-belt species, particularly in exposed agricultural or upland sites, where it provides essential protection for more vulnerable trees during establishment. As it matures, Sycamore develops into a dignified and impressive specimen tree. Its palmate leaves emerge bronze before turning dark green, and in autumn it contributes seasonal interest. The bark begins smooth and grey but gradually flakes into plates, revealing buff and pink tones beneath, reminiscent of a plane tree. In April, greenish flowers appear in drooping spikes, followed by hanging winged fruits often flushed with red.
