Wildflower SuDS Matting Turf is a specialist, ready-to-lay wildflower turf developed specifically for use within Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS). The species selected have been carefully chosen to assist in the breakup of soil compaction and pan layers, improving infiltration and water dispersal while remaining well established during periods of drought or temporary flooding. This results in a solution that is both functional and visually attractive, delivering environmental benefits with very low ongoing maintenance.

Developed by John Chambers Wildflowers using a unique soil-less growing system, this turf offers greater drought tolerance and resilience than more conventional wildflower turf products. It is composed of 37 different species of wildflowers and grasses (subject to seed availability), forming a balanced and robust sward that performs reliably in challenging moisture conditions.

With a 50% wildflower and 50% grass composition, the turf is engineered to thrive in environments subject to fluctuating water levels, such as swales, rain gardens, attenuation basins, and bio-swales. Flowering from March through to September, it delivers early-season interest and long-lasting ecological value, supporting pollinators, birds, mammals, and a wide range of invertebrates.

Sustainability is central to the production of this turf. Every effort is made to source environmentally responsible inputs, including composted green waste and organic nutrients, while closely monitoring electricity and water usage during cultivation. Installation, Watering & Maintenance Overview

Prepare the soil by removing all weeds and vegetation, then lightly loosen the surface to create a level, free-draining base. Lay the turf immediately upon delivery, ensuring rolls are tightly butted together without gaps or overlaps. Press firmly into place to ensure good root-to-soil contact.

Water after installation if conditions are dry to aid establishment. Once established, additional watering is only required during prolonged dry periods. The turf is designed to tolerate temporary waterlogging and fluctuating moisture levels.

Maintenance requirements are minimal. Carry out one annual cut at the end of the growing season, removing all arisings to maintain species diversity and prevent nutrient build-up. Avoid heavy foot traffic during early establishment and monitor for invasive weeds, removing promptly where necessary.

Delivery Information

Wildflower SuDS Matting Turf is a living, perishable product and is cut fresh to order directly from the grower.

Delivery can take up to 15 working days, subject to stock availability

Live stock levels may vary due to growing cycles and weather conditions

On-Site Storage & Handling

If immediate installation is not possible:

Unstack pallets immediately on arrival to allow airflow

Store turf in a cool, shaded location away from direct sunlight

Do not water turf while rolled, as this can cause overheating

In warm conditions, lay turf on the day of delivery wherever possible

In cooler weather, turf may be stored for up to 48 hours

If delays are unavoidable, unroll turf in strips to allow it to breathe

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in deterioration or failure to establish and is not covered by guarantee.

Cancellation Policy – Turf & Wildflower Matting Products

All turf and wildflower matting products are cut fresh to order and classed as perishable goods.

Cancellations must be made as soon as possible after placing an order

Orders can only be cancelled if the turf has not yet been cut or prepared for dispatch

Once cutting has begun or goods are in transit, cancellation or refusal of delivery will result in the full order value being charged

Turf must be laid within 24–48 hours of delivery to maintain quality and viability
