AB8/IPM2/CIPM2 Flower Rich Areas and Margins is a specialist grass and wildflower seed mixture for establishing flower-rich field margins, headlands and wildlife corridors on eligible arable land, temporary grassland areas and bush orchards. The mixture combines a high proportion of grasses with flowering species to provide a diverse sward and a source of pollen and nectar through the flowering season, with flowering generally from May to September.

The mixture contains six grass species alongside legumes, herbs and wildflowers, with the grass component selected to provide a persistent, adaptable sward. Creeping Red Fescue, Chewings Fescue, Meadow Fescue, Timothy, Hard Fescue and Slender Red Fescue form the grass element, while flowering species include Birdsfoot Trefoil, Red Clover, Vetch, Phacelia, Berseem Clover, Alsike Clover, Wild Carrot, Agrimony, Yarrow, Oxeye Daisy, Sheeps Parsley, Corn Cockle and Meadowsweet. Flowering species may vary according to availability, with the mix retaining a selection of 10 flowering species.

For establishment, sow directly into a well-prepared seedbed in spring or early autumn at a rate of 8kg per acre (20kg/ha). Once established, the area should be managed appropriately, with topping recommended in August/September and potentially again in March/April. The mixture is intended for field margins and other specified environmental areas rather than general-purpose amenity turf or conventional agricultural grazing.

Management

The established area is recommended to be topped in August/September, with a further topping potentially carried out in March/April where appropriate.
