Planting and Aftercare Instructions

Planting:

Choose a well-drained site in sun or partial shade

Dig a trench twice the width and equal depth of the root ball

Carefully remove plants from the trough without disturbing roots

Space plants approximately 30–40cm apart

Backfill with quality soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly

Aftercare:

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first two years

Apply mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds

Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to encourage dense growth

Avoid excessive fertiliser; hornbeam thrives in natural soil conditions

Winter: As a deciduous species, hornbeam will lose its leaves, and any remaining foliage may turn brown

Spring and Summer: Fresh growth will emerge, creating dense, green coverage

Consistent watering and good aftercare are essential for successful establishment. Lack of water—particularly during dry periods—can affect plant health.

Proper aftercare includes:
