Weed-Defenda 50gsm Weed Control Membrane

Weed-Defenda 50gsm is a lightweight, economical non-woven weed control membrane designed to help suppress unwanted weed growth without the need for harsh chemical treatments. Its permeable construction allows water, air and nutrients to pass through to the soil while creating a physical barrier against weeds. Easy to handle, unroll and cut to size, it is particularly well suited to everyday gardening and landscaping applications where a lightweight weed control fabric is required.

Ideal for use beneath mulch, bark, decorative stone, pebbles and other landscaping materials, Weed-Defenda 50gsm is a practical choice for flower beds, shrub borders, vegetable beds, containers, play areas and aggregate-covered spaces. The membrane is resistant to microbiological and chemical attack and can be used alongside both liquid and solid fertilisers. For heavier-duty weed and rhizome suppression, or applications such as artificial grass and domestic patios, a heavier-grade weed control membrane should be considered.

Installation Guidance

For best results, remove existing vegetation before clearing and levelling the soil. Unroll Weed-Defenda 50gsm over the prepared ground and secure it using suitable U-pins or plastic pegs. Where multiple pieces are required, overlap adjoining sections by at least 150mm (6 inches) to help prevent weeds growing through the seams.

Cover the membrane with a generous layer of mulch or decorative aggregate within 48 hours to protect it from UV exposure and help extend its service life. Weed-Defenda 50gsm can be used beneath a wide range of decorative materials, including bark, stone chippings, gravel and pebbles.
