Our Mini Green Timber Railway Sleepers are a versatile and cost-effective landscaping timber designed for projects where traditional railway sleepers are simply too large or heavy. Manufactured from sustainably sourced softwood, these mini sleepers have a compact 75mm x 150mm profile, making them particularly well suited to garden borders, raised beds, lawn edging and smaller landscaping projects. Their reduced dimensions make them easier to handle and a practical choice for domestic gardens where space is limited.

The sleepers are UC3 green pressure treated, with the preservative driven deep into the timber to help protect against rot and decay when exposed to the elements. This treatment provides an expected lifespan of approximately 8–10 years, subject to installation, environmental conditions and maintenance. Available in 1.2m, 1.8m, 2.4m and 3m lengths, the range offers flexibility for everything from compact garden projects to longer borders and landscaping structures.

The green-treated softwood has a natural appearance that will weather over time, gradually changing from its original green/light brown tones through honey brown and eventually to silvery grey. The sleepers can be stained or treated to maintain or alter their appearance, and any freshly cut surfaces should be treated with a suitable wood preservative. With their smaller footprint, these mini railway sleepers are an excellent choice for creating attractive, practical landscaping features without the bulk of traditional 200mm-deep sleepers.

Treatment & Lifespan

All sizes in this mini sleeper range are UC3 green pressure treated. The treatment process provides deep penetration of preservative into the timber cells, helping protect the softwood against rot and decay when exposed to outdoor conditions.

The expected lifespan is approximately 8–10 years, although actual service life will depend on the installation method, drainage, exposure, maintenance and environmental conditions.

These sleepers should not be confused with UC4 ground-contact sleepers. UC3 is the appropriate treatment specification provided for this mini sleeper range.

Timber Appearance & Maintenance

The sleepers are supplied with a green pressure-treated appearance and will naturally weather when exposed to sunlight and the elements. Over time, the colour can change towards honey brown and eventually silvery grey.

If you wish to maintain the colour or provide additional surface protection, a suitable exterior timber stain or preservative can be applied. Where sleepers are cut to length, newly exposed timber surfaces should be treated with an appropriate wood preservative.

As a natural timber product, every sleeper will have its own individual appearance. Knots, splits, wanes, colour variation and other natural characteristics are to be expected.
