GT Turf Reinforcement Mesh TR4 is a heavy-duty 660gsm turf reinforcement mesh designed to provide permanent protection and reinforcement for grassed areas subject to frequent pedestrian, bicycle, wheelchair and animal traffic. The robust plastic mesh interlocks with the natural roots and swards of the grass, helping spread weight loads across the surface to create a stronger, more durable grassed area. As the grass grows through the mesh, it becomes increasingly concealed, allowing the area to retain its natural appearance while benefiting from additional reinforcement.

TR4 is ideal for frequently used grass walkways, lawn reinforcement, large dog runs, wheelchair access paths and play areas, as well as slope stabilisation where establishing grass or vegetation is required. It can be installed directly over an existing grass surface without soil removal or excavation, making it a fast and cost-effective alternative to hard landscaping. The raised, slip-resistant structure can provide additional grip, with a thin layer of sand available where increased traction is required.

Manufactured from 660g/m² green, part-recycled HDPE plastic, TR4 is designed for permanent use and can help reduce grass wear, rutting and mud. It is suitable for use throughout warmer seasons and, in suitable circumstances, occasional winter use. Performance and longevity depend on traffic levels, soil conditions, drainage and correct installation. For best results, install over suitable existing grass, secure with Turf U-Pins and allow the grass to establish fully through the mesh before trafficking.

How TR4 Works

TR4 reinforces grass by allowing the grass roots and swards to intertwine naturally with the mesh, creating an effective interlock between the vegetation and reinforcement layer. This helps distribute pedestrian and other traffic loads more evenly across the grass surface, reducing concentrated wear and protecting the root structure.

As the grass grows through the mesh, the product becomes increasingly concealed, helping maintain a natural-looking lawn or grassed pathway while providing additional strength and resistance to rutting.

Installation Guidance

TR4 is quick and straightforward to install. Roll the mesh over the existing grass area and secure it using suitable Turf U-Pins. No excavation or soil removal is required.

Once pinned down, allow sufficient time for the grass to grow through and establish within the mesh. This process is essential to achieving the required strength. Do not traffic the area prematurely, as early use can cause sinking, bumps or damage. It is recommended that the grass has been mown at least three times before the reinforced area is brought into regular use.
