GT PP50 50mm Ground Reinforcement Grid

GT PP50 50mm Grid is a heavy-duty permeable paving and ground reinforcement grid designed for demanding trafficking applications where a stable, hard-wearing and free-draining surface is required. At 50mm deep, PP50 provides greater structural depth than lighter-grade paving grids, making it suitable for commercial car parks, heavily used access routes, emergency vehicle access, permeable driveways and other areas subject to regular vehicle movements. Each square metre comprises three interlocking 580 x 580mm grids, creating a robust continuous surface that is quick and straightforward to install.

Manufactured from 100% recycled, UV-stabilised plastic, PP50 can be filled with either grass or gravel to create a permeable finished surface. The unique open-cell structure allows unrestricted grass root growth while providing effective drainage of water, air and nutrients. For gravel applications, the cellular design provides excellent interlock with 5–20mm mixed sharp angular aggregate, helping resist dynamic and lateral loads and keeping the gravel securely in place with minimal maintenance.

PP50 has been developed to support SuDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) Source Control by allowing rainwater and surface water to infiltrate through the permeable paving into the underlying subgrade. With a stated filled load-bearing capacity of up to 500 tonnes per m², PP50 is suitable for a wide range of demanding applications when installed with the correct construction profile and appropriate subgrade. It can accommodate bicycles, cars, caravans, vans, fire engines, ambulances and 2-axle lorries, subject to correct design, installation and site conditions.

Grass or Gravel Finish

Grass finish: The open-cell structure provides space for grass roots to establish and spread through the grid. Water and nutrients can move through the structure, supporting healthy grass growth while the grid provides ground reinforcement.

Gravel finish: PP50 is particularly effective when filled with 5–20mm mixed sharp angular aggregate. The angular gravel interlocks within the cells, helping prevent movement and displacement caused by dynamic and lateral vehicle loads. This creates a stable, attractive and low-maintenance gravel surface.

Permeability & SuDS

PP50 is designed as a porous paving solution that allows rainwater and surface water to infiltrate through the finished grass or gravel surface and into the underlying subgrade. This makes it suitable for use as part of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) Source Control schemes and projects where managing surface water runoff is an important consideration.

The underlying subgrade and construction profile must be designed appropriately for the local conditions and anticipated traffic loading. Adequate drainage should be established before installation.

Construction & Installation

PP50 should be installed using a suitable subgrade and construction profile based on the expected traffic loading and site conditions. The grids interlock to create a continuous reinforced surface before being filled with the chosen grass-growing medium or suitable angular aggregate.
