GT PP40 40mm Ground Reinforcement Grid

GT PP40 40mm Grid is a heavy-duty permeable ground reinforcement grid designed to provide a strong, hard-wearing surface for gravel and grass applications. Also known as a gravel grid or grass grid, PP40 is particularly suited to driveways, car parks, access roads, pedestrian paths and other areas exposed to regular vehicle or pedestrian traffic. Each square metre comprises four interlocking 500 x 500mm pavers, making the system straightforward to handle and install while creating a robust, continuous reinforced surface.

Manufactured from 100% recycled, UV-stabilised plastic, PP40 provides over 350 tonnes of support per m² when filled, subject to suitable ground conditions and correct installation. Each 40mm-deep paver incorporates 25mm ground spikes to help resist lateral movement caused by repeated vehicle movements. The open-cell structure securely retains angular gravel while also allowing grass roots to spread through the cells, supporting natural growth and the movement of water, air and nutrients.

PP40 is a versatile permeable paving solution that can be filled with either angular gravel or grass, providing a free-draining alternative to impermeable surfaces such as tarmac, concrete and block paving. It is suitable for domestic and commercial applications, including gravel driveways, car parks, emergency access routes, cycle paths, wheelchair access routes and SuDS Source Control schemes. The paver profile is designed to accommodate thermal movement, helping minimise lifting during changes in temperature. For gravel installations, sharp angular aggregate is recommended rather than rounded pea shingle to ensure effective retention within the cells.

Grass or Gravel Finish

Grass finish: The open-cell design provides space for grass roots to spread both vertically and horizontally between cells. This allows water, air and nutrients to reach the rootzone while the grid provides additional structural reinforcement to the grass surface.

Gravel finish: PP40 is designed to retain sharp, angular gravel securely within its cells. This reduces gravel movement and displacement caused by vehicle traffic. A mixed-size angular gravel is recommended; rounded pea shingle is not advised because it does not interlock effectively within the grid.

Ground Spikes & Stability

Each PP40 paver features 25mm ground spikes on its underside. These help anchor the paver into the prepared ground and resist lateral forces created by repetitive vehicle movements. Combined with the interlocking paver system and 40mm depth, this provides a stable and robust reinforced surface.

Permeability & SuDS

PP40 provides a permeable alternative to traditional impermeable paving surfaces. When correctly installed, water can pass through the reinforced grass or gravel surface and into the underlying ground, supporting Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) Source Control applications.

Adequate drainage should always be established before installation. Poor underlying drainage can affect product performance and should be assessed as part of the project design.
