Green-tech supply tree stakes for tree planting project at Sun Rising nature reserve burial ground
Sun Rising natural burial ground is South Warwickshire's beautiful nature reserve burial ground. Situated at the edge of the Cotswold area of outstanding natural beauty, Sun Rising provides a final resting place.
As part of the growing movement towards natural, woodland and green burial grounds around Britain, Sun Rising has an ongoing planting programme which recently saw families of those buried planting 60 plus native memorial trees on graves, using Green-tech’s stakes to secure them. At the same time volunteers, most of whom have loved ones buried at the burial ground, planted around 300 trees that extend hedgerows into shrub blocks and small areas of woodland to improve and extend the habitat and ecological corridors.
A spokesperson for Green-tech said:
“We are a leading provider of tree planting and landscaping suppliers and are involved in many planting projects throughout the UK, however the Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground really caught our attention. We are delighted to have been able to help them and look forward to seeing pictures as their nature reserve develops and matures.”
Emma Restall Orr, Sun Rising’s Manager Comments:
“As a natural burial ground we are not just burying in woodland or preserving grazing land; we are creating a nature reserve. It takes time, developing through sensitive planting and careful management. Our aim is to establish a haven of natural beauty and serenity that allows the peace to grieve and heal, yet also where the natural landscape is nurtured, creating an ecologically-rich environment for native trees, plants and wildlife to thrive.
Families have the option of burying loved ones in plots that are part of growing woodland. This means that a sapling can be planted on the grave, and in time the grave will become part of a rich woodland ecosystem.”
The Sun Rising Burial Ground is in Middle Tysoe, Warwickshire. They have a strong community engagement programme but always welcome new volunteers.
Emma continues:
“Volunteers get a chance to get out there, get muddy and learn new skills, but for others it offers company through the lonely and bewildering days of grieving. Being with others who are similarly struggling through grief can be really valuable.”
