Green-tech supply large-scale restoration project at a Yorkshire limestone quarry.
Barnsdale Bar is a limestone quarry on the border between South and North Yorkshire and is owned by Darrington Quarries, a long-established quarrying company operating in Yorkshire.
Green-tech has a long-standing relationship with Darrington Quarries and use the Barnsdale Bar site to produce their award-winning Green-tree topsoil.
Barnsdale Bar quarry is a complex of several separate workings, and some of the areas have been exhausted of minerals. Restoration of the quarry workings is a key part of planning regulations from the council and a tree planting scheme is integral to this specific piece of restoration.
The land earmarked to be restored has been backfilled and planted with over 5000 trees and shrubs. Green-tech supplied in the region of 3000 Tubex tree shelters and 2000 Tubex shrub shelters, along with the accompanying stakes. The shelters are necessary for initial establishment and survival of vulnerable young trees and shrubs. With their own micro-climate, the shelters shield from grazing wildlife, support strong root growth and reduce the contact of spraying damage.
This will be the first of many projects throughout the restoration of the quarry complex over the coming years where there will be a number of areas that will be put back to woodland with the assistance of Green-tech. This will restore and improve the quarry site, greening it up and encouraging wildlife, insects, and biodiversity back to the site. It is intended to improve the environment in and around quarry sites.
Green-tech is the largest official distributor of Tubex shelters and works in partnership with them in a collection and recycling programme for tree shelters at their end of their useful life. For more information visit their website at www.green-tech.co.uk
